An intro to me and my adventure

Walkabout refers to a rite of passage during which male Australian Aborigines would undergo a journey during adolescence and live in the wilderness for a period as long as six months. In this practice they would trace the paths, or "songlines", that their ancestors took, and imitate, in a fashion, their heroic deeds. -Wikipedia
Walkabout- A spontaneous journey through the wilderness of one's choosing in an effort to satisfy one's itchy feet, a need to be elsewhere, the craving for the open road, that space over the horizon...yes... something like that... you can't quite touch it so you have to go find it because it's you just know it's there...Or maybe it just feels good to go walking around. -Urban Dictionary

It's also a film released in 1971 and apparently mentioned by Crocodile Dundee. But I think it fits.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Hali, and I will be turning 22 in about a week! Here I will document my own version of walkabout. I just graduated from college with a BS in marine science and am currently working on my law school applications for the fall of 2014. There's no better time for a spontaneous journey!

One of my best friends, Jeremy, and I will be leaving the US with nothing but a backpack each on August 1, 2013 and heading back on October 1. We will hit at least 18 cities in those 2 months, but probably many more than that. It's an adventure, but it's also a break. With 21 years of solid work under my belt and the "treadmill of life", so to speak, beginning next August, I decided I needed a year off. And I decided to go out and experience something new and "satisfy my itchy feet".

So this is where we will be going:

So far we have booked hostels in London, Ireland, and Paris, we have our flight from London to Dublin, our train from London to Paris, and our Eurail global pass. Pretty much everything else will be planned as we go... and we are PUMPED!

More on packing and preparing later, but for now thanks for reading and supporting my adventure!

"Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." Can't wait!!!
