Long night, long day

But not long in a bad way, actually!

Last night we decided to go ahead and pay the £10 for a night out with a guide from the hostel. We got to ride in our first double decker! About 30 of us went out to 2 clubs in Piccadilly Square, which we hadn't seen yet. It was a lot like Times Square, only dirtier. The cost included a free shot at each club and free admission. Not too bad!

The first club was one floor underground with a lot of crazy lights. It was a tiny bit raunchy, with some funny signs and bras hanging next to the one that said, "trade your underwear for a round of drinks!" There was also a stripper pole. We had fun. :)

HUGE drink at first club. I was creepin

Piccadilly Square

The second club was the main event. It had six rooms on at least 3 levels. Each room was themed differently: one was themed like a hospital/chemistry lab and was called "the clinic". They served drinks in beakers. One had a light-up dance floor straight out of Austin Powers. And the other rooms were equally unusual.

We didn't want to spend money on drinks, get drunk in an unfamiliar city, or stay out late, so we took it all in and set out back to the hostel. It took a while to find the bus and get back (1:30 am). When we got back we had our first sketchy hostel surprise. The bunk under mine had two people in it (not allowed) and there was a third sleeping on the floor. It was a girl, so I didn't feel unsafe or anything, but... Yea.... Weird.

Jeremy let me sleep in this morning, so I missed the crappy breakfast but had a banana and breakfast bar so I was fine. I then took my second shower (very much needed) and we set out for the V&A Museum.

I was honestly very impressed. It was like nothin I'd seen before, it was HUGE, it was free, and we saw some really cool stuff. It used space really well, with TONS of objects to see and artifacts like doorways and balconies incorporated into the museum architecture.  I would definitely recommend it!

We left the museum, got some cheap lunch (subway), sent some postcards, and ran into what was apparently a super  nice car. Jeremy took a picture.

He now informs me it's called a Bugatti and is worth $1.6 million. Whatever, it's a car.

We decided to walk to Harrods to get some chocolate, and got dark chocolate truffles with rose flavor. They were amazing- expensive but worth it.

After that we wandered around trying to catch buses that weren't running because of the damn bicycle event and ended up walking back for about an hour and a half. On our way back we did walk through a really nice part of town, which had high-end stores and embassy row.
And since then we've been chilling. We ate some cheap hostel snacks and now we're going to go get 1 beer at a real English pub.

Our feet are killing us, but we are definitely getting into the swing of things. I am figuring out how to deal with germy things and how to get through the day in a good mood.

Tomorrow we are off to Dublin. Not sure if I'll be able to blog there, but I will definitely be filling you in on Dublin ASAP. We are excited to see a new place. :)

Cheers! Love to friends and family, miss you guys.

  1. I was concerned...but it sounds like you have hit your stride! Try Marks & Spencer department stores for quick takeout meals; they are all over the UK. You can buy a sandwich and underwear in the same store. The V&A photos are great; don't forget the British Museum when you return to London--free and amazing. May the wind be at your back!
